Robot 7th Axis is a linear motion system that moves a robot along a linear axis. This type of system is also known as a robot transport unit (RTU) or linear motion unit. It allows the robot to move to other workstations or units within the length of the linear guide rail to perform other tasks.
General industrial robots typically have six active joints, or "6 axes." Adding an external motion axis to this can increase its range of motion. This additional axis is called the "7th axis."
There are many ways to implement a 7th axis. Common implementations include linear ground rails, overhead gantries, gantry frames, and lift-up racks and circular tracks. The running track and guide rail length of a 7th axis can be customized freely. When the robot slides along the guide rail, it needs to drag a cable protected by a cable drag chain to power itself and transmit control signals.
